Carruthers & Roth Sponsors Greensboro’s Society of Financial Service Professionals “Professional Day”

GREENSBORO, NC – On Tuesday, May 12, Greensboro’s Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP) held its annual “Professional Day” seminar in Greensboro to a sold out audience of industry professionals. With many Carruthers & Roth attorneys serving active roles with SFSP, Carruthers & Roth was proud to support the event as gold level sponsors.

In addition, attorneys J. Scott Dillon and Gregory S. Williams both addressed the membership as key presenters. Mr. Dillon’s topic “IRA Investment in Real Estate, Closely-Held Business Interests, and Other Non-Traditional Assets” was presented with an example-based approach to guide session participants through the minefield of rules leading to a successful IRA transaction.

Mr. Williams presentation titled “Estate Planning Potpourri and IRA Investing in Non-Traditional Assets” recounted the twists and turns of estate tax legislation over the past decade, described pending new estate tax law and provided tips and suggestions on how clients should react and/or update or modify their plans over the coming months and years. In addition, given the recent uncertainty of the stability of financial institutions, Greg described the FDIC rules as they apply in the estate planning context, particularly the advantages obtained by the use of revocable trusts.
