Sam Chip Cook Printer-Friendly

Sam “Chip” Cook is the founding Director of Information Technology at Carruthers & Roth. Born in Winston-Salem, Chip was raised in the West End Neighborhood. Growing up just one block from the law offices of Petree Stockton, Chip learned to ride his bicycle in the firm’s parking lot (and was careful not to hit the attorney’s cars).

Moving to Oak Ridge in Guilford County in the late 1980’s, Chip attended Oak Ridge Military Academy, graduating as the battalion commander. His college years were spent at UNC Greensboro, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication, and met his sweetheart and future wife, Sarah. Chip later completed a graduate certificate in computer networking from East Carolina University, and truly became a “geek who likes to speak.”

Employed as an IT professional for the United States Courts in 2004, Chip innovated office technology systems and user support over the next thirteen and a half years of service to attorneys and paralegal staff. These improvements included providing technical leadership in helping develop a national software product for the bankruptcy administrator program, which he was recognized by receiving the Triad Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty Leader award in 2014.

Outside of his IT work, Chip teaches public speaking and business communication courses as an evening adjunct lecturer. A 2013 Leadership Greensboro alumnus, Chip is involved in the community with volunteering in LEAD (Lindley Engaged and Active Dads), a paternal school support group for Lindley Elementary School. He is also an active member of First Moravian Church, participates in historical events with the Sons of the American Revolution, and is a saxophonist in the Greensboro Concert Band.
